Anthony’s Pier Nine and Twin Lakes

Posted on September 20, 2009, under Uncategorized.

It’s about time to play some catch up.  We did make it to Anthony’s Pier Nine and Twin lakes last month.  We had a bit of a hard time deciding between the three venues we had seen.
Villa Borghese was very nice and seemed like one of the best choices for your dollar.  Despite this, considering the number of guests we are expecting, we felt that the rooms were not quite as “roomy” when compared to the other two.  They had done some remodeling since the last time we had been there and the terrace was beautiful.  For some reason when we left our visit I wasn’t wow-ed though.  I’m not sure for what reason, but I was just ready to visit more venues right away.
Finally August 1st came and it was time for our visit to Anthony’s Pier Nine.  We met with Michael in the morning and were ready for our adventure!  We started with …

First Venue Visit ~ Villa Borghese

Posted on July 26, 2009, under Uncategorized.

We met with Paul at Villa Borghese today. It went well. He was very informative, and the place looked nice. My cousin Justin and his wife Shannon actually got married there probably about 5 years ago and it was very nice then too. So it is still an option! They included a lot of the common extra fees at other venues so I think it was a good first meeting choice! Now we know how to compare the other places to one another.
The agenda for the week is to contact Twin Lakes again, everyone seems to have only good things to say about them, so that is a good sign. And also Anthony’s Pier Nine.

The Search Continues… Two New Venues in Mind

Posted on July 23, 2009, under Uncategorized.

Today I talked to my boss. Her daughter just got married last weekend. She shared her pictures with me and said that she would have plenty of tips for me along the way.
What I am most excited about is the information she gave me about Twin Lakes in Hurley. Her daughter lives in NJ but they were considering Twin Lakes early on. She told me that it was a beautiful place, they have indoor and outdoor seating, great food and a great chef. And… they have cottages on the property that the bride and groom stay in, and anyone else who chooses. The chef told her that at night they go out and set a bonfires for their guests.
This alone was a huge allure for me. It just reminded me of the good times Jeff’s family and I have shared at his Aunts house …

Decisions decisions

Over the past few days I have done a lot of searching, comparing and emailing over the the perfect venue, that just happens to have the perfect price. Easier said than done! There are so many beautiful places to choose from, unfortunately they all seems to have the same price range. The search continues! So any and all suggestions are welcome!

Making some lifestyle changes - beware

Posted on July 22, 2009, under Uncategorized.

If you know me at all, you know that I have my vices. Although they are common, and for the most part relatively harmless, they exist.

Over the last month or so I started tackling one of my vices – Food. Without question, I could be called a foodie. I love food; I love cooking it, eating it, experimenting with new combinations and flavors, both at home, and out. About a month ago I started Weight Watchers, and I am down about 16 lbs. This was probably the easiest vice for me to tackle, since the “pay out” of concurring it is both noticeable and quick.

I have been thinking about tackling my two other main vices, which will not be so easy. Starbucks, and Cigarettes. I am, without a doubt, very dependent on both. I am rarely seen without at least one of them in my hand at any given time, and consume more …

The Venue Serach is underway - and I am dizzy.

Posted on July 21, 2009, under Uncategorized.

So, it has been just a few days since the proposal, and the whirlwind has begun. We have picked a date (9.10.11), and in the interest of keeping that date, it is important to find a venue that meets our needs, and to get that date locked in.

Tara has been doing her research and has found scores of local places that host weddings and receptions; but we only need one place, not tens of places. A few of the venues in the running are Mohonk Reserve / Mountain House, Anthony’s Pier Nine, The Grand, Grand View, and many more that I cannot remember.

I have mixed feelings; on one hand, unlike the stereotypical groom, I want to be involved in the thought process, and the process as a whole. On the other hand, this is less than typical, and I have received a number of warnings from both male and female friends, coworkers, and family to …

The Proposal~Tara’s Take

Posted on July 20, 2009, under Uncategorized.

Have you ever been taken off guard?  Especially about something you’ve thought over a million times before?  Well, I certainly have!  Jeff and I have been together for nearly 6 years now, so I have had plenty of time to wonder about our future… would there be wedding bells in our future?  In my heart I knew it would happen someday, but I tried to not think about it.  When Jeff and I took a look at wedding rings online, he told me it had something to do with a website project.  And when he kept asking me to get my nails done, only days before the actual proposal did I start thinking about what this all meant, if anything! I tried to write it off as to not psych myself out.
On July 15th 2009, it was a Wednesday.  We had just gotten out of work and had decided to skip our diets that night …

The Proposal - Jeff’s Take

Posted on July 20, 2009, under Uncategorized.

I have never really been too good at sticking to a plan. I am good at making plans, but sticking to them is not my strong suit. Over the course of the last few months I made many plans, but as usual I decided it is best to live in the moment, and most of them went out the window.

I guess I should start at the beginning.  Tara and I met shortly after I ended my High School career a bit early than I had planned.  I was working at Hannaford Supermarket, as I had been for a couple of years at that point, and Tara transferred in from another store.  She was quiet and reserved (not unlike today), but I was drawn to her (some things never change).  This is the point in the story where the details matter far more to me than they do to you, so lets skip ahead a bit …
